Russ Stothers first love was wood, or so he thought. I guess it was
textures. While in classes in Grand Rapids, he had the opportunity to meet
several local glass makers who spoke highly of their careers in stained
glass. His curiosity was piqued when he learned that he could go to school
while working. Soon after, he began studying with two
different masters, and completed all the courses they offered.
His studies, along with coursework conducted at local Grand Rapids' MI
classes, entailed many hours of practice. During
2003 and 2004, that practice prepared him for an immediate position as his
friends and family started requesting his pieces. Then, he worked directly
with local mentors to create his own award-winning pieces. In 2004, this
experience led to an emergence of his Trademark Butterfly Angels. To
be the glassmaker and general manager for Clear Distortion, located in
Waterford, MI became a reality. In addition to
crafting Lisa's Butterfly Angels, and Beveled Hummingbirds, Russ was
responsible for overseeing the development from inception, of his Celtic
and Medieval Themes.
Although Russ enjoyed launching Clear Distortion, he could not
pass up the opportunity to spearhead the actual glassmaking. Believing
that great glass result from superior raw materials, Russ works
side-by-side with the Clear Distortion Team to maintain the
integrity of the projects through all growing phases.
Once Russ' new passion arrived in his life, he was able to develop and
refine his "glass" style. Since all pieces have their own
personalities due to texture, thickness, color, position, etc., Russ
upholds a close relationship with each piece, monitoring the development
of each individual stained glass piece, a luxury only smaller artists can
afford.
Russ sees himself as an individualist right now, and intends to take on
an apprentice, or two, in the near future. Understanding colors and textures are
born through the focus and efforts of the soul, and enhanced over time. He
adds, "It is only when the belief systems of all involved revolving
around a common goal, that world-class Stained-Glass can be
realized."
On summer evenings, the unsold pieces reflect
the light of the day gone by, spinning on their axis, and beckon
their new owner.
We believe that Clear Distortion's rare commitment to quality
has produced
stained glass pieces of exceptional complexity and grace. We hope that you agree and welcome your comments.
